Research Division

Dr. Mulla completed his master’s and Ph.D. degrees in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of South Florida College of Public Health in Tampa. Prior to joining the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2006, Dr. Mulla was a faculty member at the El Paso Regional Campus of the University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston (UT-Houston). He has worked over 20 years as an epidemiologist and authored over 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Mulla’s honors include the Outstanding Teacher Award from UT-Houston, and the Professional Achievement Award from the University of Arizona Alumni Association in Tucson. Dr. Mulla is certified by the National Board of Public Health Examiners. 

Christina has previously worked with UTEP Department of Biosciences conducting Immunology research as a research assistant and New Mexico State University (NMSU) conducting genetic testing as a DNA analyst. She joined TTUHSC in 2009 as a lead technician at the Center of Emphasis in Cancer conducting Breast Cancer research for the Avon “Army of Women” grant and then became a research associate at the OBGYN department conducting preventative cervical cancer research for an NIH funded P01 grant. She has been the Assistant Director of Research for OBGYN since 2015. Christina enjoys being active in the community and was a volunteer for Big Brother, Big Sisters El Paso, El Paso Children’s Hospital NICU and Emergency Department, and the El Paso Police Department Citizen’s academy. She stays fit and socializes by playing in an adult kickball league, has trained in krav maga, and crossfit. She enjoys traveling and visiting World Heritage sites and has been to over 20 countries in 5 continents. Christina is an active traveler who enjoys adventure and has camped on the Andes Mountains, hiked the Inka trail to Machu Piccu, been inside the Great Pyramids of Giza and ridden in a hot air balloon over the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, taken a tiger cub for a walk in Thailand, zip lined the Sierra Madres in Mexico, swam with iguanas in the Galapagos Islands, explored the Củ Chi tunnels of Vietnam, posed with structures at Angor Wat temple in Cambodia, ridden the canals of Venice Italy, and enjoyed a drink at Oktoberfest in Germany.

Throughout her career she has held research positions at NIH/NIDDK and in the private sector.  She has worked with Native American communities in the Southwest, to address health promotion especially on chronic diseases, obesity and nutritional issues.
